Introduction #
In this doc we’ll explain how to get started with email on cPanel. Want to know more? Go to the email category within our knowledgebase.
Getting Started with Email #
If your ProRedLine package includes email hosting, the first step is creating an email account in cPanel. Once the mailbox exists, you can access it through webmail or connect it to your phone, tablet, or desktop email app.
Email services are available on supported Email Hosting and Web Hosting packages that include email functionality.
Before You Start #
Before setting up email, make sure the following is in place:
- your domain is active
- your package includes email hosting
- you have access to cPanel
- the email account has been created or is ready to be created
In most cases, the required DNS setup should already be in place. If not, email may not work correctly yet.
Step 1: Create Your Email Account in cPanel #
Before you can send or receive email, you need to create the mailbox itself.
To create an email account:
- Log in to cPanel
- Open the Email section
- Click Email Accounts
- Click Create
- Enter the mailbox name, for example
info - Select the correct domain
- Set a strong password
- Choose a mailbox storage limit if needed
- Save the account
The email account becomes active immediately after creation.
Password Tip #
Use a strong and unique password for every mailbox. A weak email password increases the risk of unauthorized access, spam abuse, and login problems.
Step 2: Access Your Mailbox Through Webmail #
The fastest way to start using your mailbox is through webmail. This works directly in your browser and does not require a mail app.
You can access webmail in two common ways:
https://webmail.yourdomain.comhttps://webmail.proredline.com(fallback)
You can also open webmail through cPanel:
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to Email Accounts
- Click Check Email next to the mailbox
To log in, use:
- username: your full email address
- password: the password of that email account
Do not use your cPanel password unless it is specifically the same mailbox password.
Webmail is useful for first-time access, quick testing, and using email from any device without configuring an app.
Step 3: Set Up Email on Your Phone or Computer #
If you want to use your mailbox in an email app such as Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, iPhone Mail, or Android Mail, use the standard secure settings below.
Recommended Protocol #
Use IMAP for email setup.
IMAP is recommended because it keeps your mailbox synchronized across devices. If you read or delete an email on one device, the same change will appear on your other devices as well.
Standard Email Settings #
Use these settings for most email apps.
Incoming Mail (IMAP) #
- Server:
mail.yourdomain.com - Port:
993 - Encryption:
SSL/TLS - Username: your full email address
- Password: your email account password
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) #
- Server:
mail.yourdomain.com - Port:
465 - Encryption:
SSL/TLS - Authentication: required
- Username: your full email address
- Password: your email account password
Outgoing authentication must be enabled. Without it, sending mail usually will not work.
Setting Up Email on Mobile #
You can use your ProRedLine email account on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
In most cases, the process looks like this:
- Open the mail app on your device
- Add a new account
- Choose Other or IMAP
- Enter your email address and password
- Enter the incoming and outgoing server settings
- Save the configuration
The exact steps may vary slightly depending on the device and app, but the email settings stay the same.
Setting Up Email on Desktop #
You can also use your mailbox in desktop email clients such as:
- Outlook
- Apple Mail
- Thunderbird
In most cases, you add a new mail account, choose manual setup if needed, select IMAP, and enter the same server settings listed above.
Good First Test After Setup #
After creating the mailbox and configuring access, it is a good idea to test both sending and receiving:
- send an email from the mailbox to another address
- reply to that email back to the mailbox
- confirm both incoming and outgoing mail work correctly
This is the fastest way to verify that the mailbox, login details, and connection settings are all working as expected.
If Something Does Not Work #
If email setup fails, first check:
- whether the mailbox was created in cPanel
- whether the full email address is being used as the username
- whether the correct password is being entered (some email applications require the password twice for IMAP and SMTP)
- whether the IMAP and SMTP server settings match the values above
- whether SSL/TLS and SMTP authentication are enabled
For quick access or testing, webmail is usually the easiest fallback option while troubleshooting.
