Web Disk allows you to access your hosting files as a network drive on your computer.
It lets you manage files as if they were stored locally, without using an FTP client or the File Manager.
Web Disk uses a secure connection and is available for Web Hosting and Site Hosting accounts.
What Web Disk Is Used For #
Web Disk can be used to:
- Upload and download website files
- Manage folders from your operating system
- Access files without opening cPanel each time
For most users, Web Disk is optional.
FTP or the File Manager is usually easier and more reliable.
How Web Disk Works #
Web Disk connects to your hosting account using:
- Your cPanel username
- Your cPanel password
- A secure protocol (WebDAV over HTTPS)
Once connected, your hosting directory appears as a network drive.
Where to Find Web Disk in cPanel #
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Files section
- Click Web Disk
Here you will see connection details and setup instructions.
Supported Operating Systems #
Web Disk can be configured on:
- Windows
- macOS
- Linux
Each operating system has its own setup method, which is shown inside cPanel.
Directory Access #
By default, Web Disk provides access to:
- Your home directory
- Website files such as
public_html
You can limit access by creating a dedicated Web Disk user with restricted permissions.
When to Use Web Disk #
Web Disk may be useful if:
- You prefer managing files via your file explorer
- You make occasional file changes
- You want quick access without FTP software
When Not to Use Web Disk #
Web Disk is not recommended if:
- You upload large numbers of files
- You need high performance transfers
- You experience unstable network connections
In these cases, FTP is more reliable.
Security and Responsibility #
You are responsible for:
- Securing your login credentials
- Disconnecting unused network drives
- Not sharing access with unauthorized users
Web Disk access provides direct file access to your hosting account.
Common Issues #
- Connection fails due to incorrect credentials
- Operating system does not support WebDAV
- Network blocks WebDAV traffic
- Slow transfer speeds
These are usually client-side issues.
