Two-Factor Authentication, also called 2FA, adds an extra security layer to your cPanel account.
It requires both your password and a temporary verification code when logging in.
This reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
How Two-Factor Authentication Works #
When 2FA is enabled:
- You enter your username and password
- You are asked for a one-time code
- The code is generated by an authentication app
The code changes every few seconds and can only be used once.
Why You Should Use 2FA #
2FA helps protect against:
- Stolen passwords
- Brute-force login attempts
- Unauthorized account access
Even if someone knows your password, they cannot log in without the second factor.
Where to Find Two-Factor Authentication in cPanel #
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Security section
- Click Two-Factor Authentication
You can enable or disable 2FA from this page.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication #
To enable 2FA:
- Click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication
- Scan the QR code using an authenticator app
- Enter the generated code to confirm
- Save the configuration
Once enabled, 2FA is active immediately.
Supported Authentication Apps #
Common authenticator apps include:
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Any standard TOTP-compatible app will work.
Backup Codes and Device Changes #
Some setups provide recovery or backup codes.
You are responsible for:
- Storing backup codes securely
- Updating 2FA if you change your phone
- Ensuring you do not lose access
Without recovery options, account access may be lost.
Disabling Two-Factor Authentication #
2FA can be disabled from within cPanel.
If you lose access to your authenticator app:
- Contact ProRedLine support
- Identity verification may be required
Access restoration is not guaranteed.
Common Issues #
- Incorrect time on the mobile device
- Wrong code entered
- Authenticator app removed
- Device lost without backup
Most issues are caused by device-related problems.
Responsibility Notice #
You are responsible for:
- Managing your 2FA setup
- Keeping recovery options safe
- Maintaining access to your account
ProRedLine cannot bypass 2FA without verification.
