Forwarders and autoresponders are email features that automate how incoming emails are handled.
They are commonly used to redirect messages or send automatic replies.
These features are available on Email Hosting and Web Hosting packages that include email services.
What Email Forwarders Are #
An email forwarder automatically sends incoming emails to another address.
Example:
- Email sent to
info@yourdomain.com - Automatically forwarded to
you@gmail.com
The original email is not stored unless a mailbox also exists.
When to Use Email Forwarders #
Use forwarders when:
- Multiple people need to receive the same email
- You want to monitor a mailbox externally
- You do not want to log in to webmail
Forwarders are useful for shared or monitored addresses.
Creating an Email Forwarder #
To create a forwarder:
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Email section
- Click Forwarders
- Add the forwarding rule
Forwarders apply immediately.
What Autoresponders Are #
An autoresponder automatically replies to incoming emails with a predefined message.
Common uses include:
- Out-of-office messages
- Acknowledgement of received emails
- Temporary service notifications
Autoresponders only send replies and do not forward messages.
Creating an Autoresponder #
To create an autoresponder:
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Email section
- Click Autoresponders
- Configure the message and schedule
Autoresponders can be time-limited or permanent.
Using Forwarders and Autoresponders Together #
Forwarders and autoresponders can be used together:
- Autoresponder sends a reply
- Forwarder delivers the message elsewhere
This setup is common for support or info addresses.
Common Mistakes #
- Creating forwarding loops
- Autoresponder replying to automated emails
- Forwarding to invalid addresses
- Forgetting to disable autoresponders
These mistakes can cause email floods.
Storage and Delivery Considerations #
- Forwarded emails are not stored unless a mailbox exists
- Autoresponders do not archive messages
- External email providers may filter forwarded emails
Consider mailbox usage for long-term storage.
Responsibility Notice #
You are responsible for:
- Correct forwarder configuration
- Avoiding forwarding loops
- Managing autoresponder messages
ProRedLine does not monitor automated email behavior.
