An email forwarder automatically redirects incoming emails from one address to another.
It allows you to receive emails without actively using the original mailbox.
Email forwarders are available on Email Hosting and Web Hosting packages that include email services.
What an Email Forwarder Does #
An email forwarder:
- Receives email for an address on your domain
- Immediately forwards it to another email address
- Does not store the email unless a mailbox exists
Example:
- Email sent to
info@yourdomain.com - Automatically forwarded to
you@example.com
When to Use Email Forwarders #
Email forwarders are useful when:
- Multiple people need to receive the same email
- You want to monitor a mailbox externally
- You do not want to log in to webmail
- You want to centralize email delivery
Forwarders are commonly used for info or contact addresses.
Where to Find Email Forwarders in cPanel #
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Email section
- Click Forwarders
You can create, edit and delete forwarders from this page.
Creating an Email Forwarder #
To create a forwarder:
- Click Add Forwarder
- Enter the source email address
- Enter the destination email address
- Save the forwarder
The forwarder becomes active immediately.
Forwarding to Multiple Addresses #
You can:
- Create multiple forwarders for one address
- Forward emails to multiple recipients
Each recipient will receive a copy of the email.
Forwarders vs Mailboxes #
Important distinction:
- A forwarder does not store email
- A mailbox stores emails locally
If you need storage, create both:
- An email account
- A forwarder for that account
External Email Providers #
When forwarding to external providers:
- Emails may be filtered as spam
- SPF configuration may be required
- Delivery depends on the external provider
Forwarded emails are more likely to be filtered than direct delivery.
Common Mistakes #
- Creating forwarding loops
- Forwarding to invalid addresses
- Assuming emails are stored automatically
- Forwarding without proper SPF setup
These issues can cause email loss.
Managing and Removing Forwarders #
You can remove a forwarder at any time:
- Changes apply immediately
- No emails are retained after removal
Always verify active forwarders periodically.
Responsibility Notice #
You are responsible for:
- Correct forwarder configuration
- Avoiding forwarding loops
- Ensuring destination addresses are valid
ProRedLine does not recover lost forwarded emails.
