An autoresponder automatically sends a reply to incoming emails.
It is commonly used to inform senders that their message has been received or that you are unavailable.
Autoresponders are available on Email Hosting and Web Hosting packages that include email services.
What an Autoresponder Does #
An autoresponder:
- Sends an automatic reply to incoming emails
- Uses a predefined message
- Does not forward or store emails by itself
The original email is still delivered normally to the mailbox.
Common Uses for Autoresponders #
Autoresponders are typically used for:
- Out-of-office messages
- Acknowledging received emails
- Temporary service notifications
- Vacation notices
They help manage expectations for email senders.
Where to Find Autoresponders in cPanel #
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to the Email section
- Click Autoresponders
You can create, edit and delete autoresponders from this page.
Creating an Autoresponder #
To create an autoresponder:
- Click Add Autoresponder
- Select the email address
- Enter the subject and message
- Set start and end times if needed
- Save the autoresponder
The autoresponder becomes active immediately.
Avoiding Autoresponder Loops #
Autoresponder loops occur when:
- Two autoresponders reply to each other
- Automated systems trigger replies repeatedly
To avoid loops:
- Do not reply to automated sender addresses
- Use simple, controlled messages
- Avoid replying to mailing lists
Loops can cause large volumes of email traffic.
Autoresponders and Spam Filtering #
Autoresponders:
- Do not affect spam filtering
- Do not improve email deliverability
- Can trigger spam filters if misused
Avoid aggressive or misleading autoresponder content.
Using Autoresponders with Forwarders #
Autoresponders can be used together with forwarders:
- Autoresponder replies to the sender
- Forwarder sends the message to another address
This is common for shared mailboxes.
Common Issues #
- Autoresponder not sending replies
- Autoresponder replying multiple times
- Autoresponder active longer than intended
- Incorrect email address selected
Most issues are configuration-related.
Responsibility Notice #
You are responsible for:
- Correct autoresponder configuration
- Disabling autoresponders when no longer needed
- Preventing automated reply loops
ProRedLine does not monitor autoresponder behavior.
